Elevate Your Workout Display Experience
We’re really excited to introduce Workout TV, a brand-new way to get BTWB up on the big screen. If you’ve ever used WODscreen, this is the next version of that idea… just way more modern, way more customizable, and way easier to make look great on a TV.
Workout TV is built for gyms and for people training at home. Whether you’re running a class or working out in your garage, it’s a super clean way to display workouts, leaderboards, and more.
In this post, we’ll walk through what’s changing, who can use it, how to get it set up, and what screens are available once you’re up and running.
The Transition
With our next app update (coming at the end of this week), we’re officially moving away from WODscreen.
So if you’ve been using WODscreen to run a TV display in your gym, you’ll want to know this part:
👉 WODscreen is going away, and Workout TV is taking its place.
Everything you were using WODscreen for is now moving into Workout TV, and it’s happening very soon, so you’ll want to be ready to make the switch once the update hits.
Who Can Use It
One of the biggest upgrades here is who gets access.
With WODscreen, TV displays were basically a gym-only thing. But with Workout TV, we’re opening it up so that any BTWB user can put workouts on a TV, not just gyms.
That means if you’re an individual user following a coaching program (like CrossFit Linchpin, for example) you can now throw your workouts up on a TV in your garage, home gym, or wherever you train.
We’re pumped about this, because Workout TV isn’t just a gym tool anymore. It’s something individuals can use too.
How It Works
Workout TV is pretty simple once you break it down:
Step 1: Get btwb.tv onto your TV
There are three ways to do that:
- Use a computer
- Go to btwb.tv on your laptop or desktop
- Then either:
- plug into your TV with HDMI, or
- cast your browser to the TV (if you’ve got Chromecast or Chromecast built-in)
- Use a smart TV
- Open the browser app on your TV
- Go directly to btwb.tv
- Use the BTWB app + Chromecast
- Open the BTWB app
- Go to Workout TV
- Choose the Chromecast option
- It should automatically launch Workout TV on the TV that has Chromecast
Step 2: Choose how you want to control it
Once btwb.tv is showing on your TV screen, you’ve got two options:
- Option A: Sign in on btwb.tv
- If you sign in right on the site, you can control everything directly from the browser (menus, workouts, screen settings, etc.)
- Option B: Scan the QR code
- btwb.tv will also show a QR code
- If you scan it using the BTWB app, your phone turns into the remote control for the TV screen.
Where to find Workout TV in the BTWB app
After the update, you’ll see a TV icon in the top-right corner of the BTWB home screen.
When you tap it, you’ll see two tabs:
- Web tab
- This gives you a camera option
- Use it to scan the QR code shown on btwb.tv
- Chromecast tab
- This is where you connect to a Chromecast device and launch Workout TV
- After it connects, it becomes a camera option too, so you can scan the QR code and control the screen
Available Screens
Workout TV comes with four different screen options, depending on what you want showing on the TV.
Quick note before we jump in:
👉 Individual users only get access to the Workouts screen. The other screens (WOD Activity, WOD Leaderboard, and Class) are for gym / all-in-one subscribers.
Workouts
Displays workouts (and Notes!) on a big screen so coaches and athletes can easily follow along during training. This is the main screen most people will use, and it’s super flexible.
- You can display up to 4 workouts at a time
- You can pick your color theme
- You can show/hide things like:
- athlete instructions
- demo GIFs
- average scores
- top scores
- You can also adjust the size of:
- workout title
- workout description
- instructions
- scores
Basically, it’s designed so you can make it look great no matter what size TV you’re using.
WOD Activity
Displays results (unordered) for selected workouts so you can see who is logging what in real time.
- You can display up to 4 workouts
- It shows a stream of results for those workouts
- It’s not ranked like a leaderboard. It’s more like “here’s what people are doing right now”
Customization options include:
- theme color
- show/hide profile images
- adjust the size of:
- profile images
- workout titles
- results
- worldwide averages shown at the bottom
WOD Leaderboard
Displays top results for one or more workouts. This screen is similar to WOD Activity, but results are actually ranked.
- You can show up to 4 workouts
- And the layout changes depending on how many workouts you’re displaying:
If you show 1 workout:
- Top 20 men
- Top 20 women
If you show 2 workouts:
- Top 10 men + top 10 women for each workout
If you show 3 or 4 workouts:
- It alternates between:
- all men’s results
- all women’s results
- You can choose how fast it alternates (anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute)
Customization options include:
- theme color
- show/hide profile images
- adjust sizes for the same elements as WOD Activity
Class
This screen is built specifically for gyms running classes. It helps keep the class organized by displaying check-ins, workout info, and athlete updates all in one place. Note: It’ll only work for btwb gyms on the All-in-One subscription.
At the start of class, it shows:
- class details
- members who reserved a spot
Each member card will also show (if available):
- achievements
- PRs earned in the last 2 days
As people check in, you’ll see who’s actually there.
Once class starts, it focuses only on checked-in athletes, and their cards (once members log results to the app) update to show:
- logged workout results
- newly earned achievements and PRs
You can also show the workouts themselves, so it becomes a full “class command center” on the TV.
